There is no credit check*. While we must verify your identity, you do not need to undergo a credit check to get a Purpose Card.
*IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OPENING A NEW CARD ACCOUNT: To help the federal government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, the USA PATRIOT Act requires all financial institutions and their third-party service providers to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens a Card Account. What this means for you: When you open a Card Account, we will ask for your name, street address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see a copy of your driver’s license or other identifying documents. In accordance with federal regulations, until it is activated and registered, a prepaid debit card is subject to an initial load limitation, may not be used for international transactions or account-to-account transfers, or be reloaded.
Your personalized card will arrive approximately 7-10 days after your temporary card is purchased. If you do not receive your card, please contact Customer Service at 1-866-226-1551. When your card arrives, follow the activation instructions to activate the card. The personalized card replaces the temporary card.
With your card, you can make purchases at stores, over the phone and online. Use it anywhere Visa® debit cards are accepted. Withdraw cash at ATMs worldwide. Pay bills, rent and other necessities. (Fees may apply.)
Yes. You have the option to get up to two additional companion cards with your Purpose Card account*. All cards associated with your account will have access to the same funds. Simply login to your account to order your companion cards.
*$4.98 fee for each additional card. The Primary Cardholder is responsible for all fees and transaction costs incurred by the Secondary Cardholder. Secondary Cardholder must be at least 13 years of age and will be subject to ID verification.
Yes, you can customize your Purpose Card with your favorite photo*. To create a customized card, simply login to your account, click on ‘My Prepaid Cards’ and then ‘Design a Card’.
*Photograph (full-size or passport-type) must meet Custom Card Image Guidelines. $4.95 fee for each Custom Card. If Custom Card is lost, stolen, or damaged, any request for: (a) a replacement Custom Card requires resubmission of image and payment of Custom Card Replacement Fee; or (b) a replacement standard Card requires payment of standard Card Replacement Fee.
Yes, you may use your Purpose Card to pay at the pump. However, paying at the pump may cause a hold of up to $75 on your account until the final amount is processed. Since this can sometimes be a few days later, we recommend that you consider paying inside to avoid this hold instead.
Yes, you can use your card at car rental agencies that accept prepaid cards. However, they usually require a deposit of 15 percent more than the cost of renting the car. The rental agency will put an extra hold on the account for that amount of money and the hold could last for a couple of weeks. We suggest that you call the car rental agency to inquire about how much they require for a standard deposit if paying with a prepaid card and how long a typical authorization hold on a prepaid card will last.
It depends on the merchant. When you use your card at hotels and restaurants, or at other service-oriented merchants, it’s called an "open ended" transaction. That means the total amount due is unknown. The merchant has the right to estimate the final transaction amount. If this occurs, and the total amount authorized by the merchant exceeds the amount available on your Purpose Card, the transaction will be declined. The merchant also has the right to hold funds on your Purpose Card. In order to avoid these types of holds, we recommend you call hotels first to inquire about their prepaid card policy.

You can view your balance and transaction history online by logging into your account or by downloading the Purpose Card Mobile App* on your Android or iOS mobile device. You can also call 1-866-226-1551 for a balance inquiry 24/7, or you can sign up for text alerts* to monitor your account activity so you’ll always know your balance.

The Purpose Card gives you an optional savings plan so you can save up for a trip or a big expense. Earn up to 5.00% APY on balances up to $1,000 with our optional tiered-rate savings account*. Login to set up your savings plan.
*The Savings Account is made available to Cardholders through MetaBank; Member FDIC. To participate in the Savings Account program, Cardholder must consent to and continue receiving communications from us in electronic form. If Cardholder is subject to Internal Revenue Service backup withholding at the time of the request to open a Savings Account, the request will be declined. Interest is calculated on the Average Daily Balance(s) of the Savings Account and is paid quarterly.
• If the Average Daily Balance is $1,000.00 or less, the interest rate paid on the entire balance will be 4.91% with an annual percentage yield (APY) of 5.00%.
• If the Average Daily Balance is more than $1,000.00, the interest rate paid on the portion of the Average Daily Balance which exceeds $1,000.00 will be 0.49% with an APY of 0.50%, and the interest paid on the portion of the Average Daily Balance which is $1,000.00 or less will be 4.91%. The APY for this tier will range from 5.00% to 0.54%, depending on the balance in the account.
The interest rates and APYs of each tier may change. The APYs were accurate as of July 1, 2016. These are promotional rates and may change without notice pursuant to applicable law. No minimum balance necessary to open Savings Account or obtain the yield(s). Because Savings Account funds are withdrawn through the Card Account (maximum 6 such transfers per calendar month), Card Account transaction fees could reduce the interest earned on the Savings Account. Card Account and Savings Account funds are FDIC-insured through MetaBank, Member FDIC upon verification of Cardholder's identity. For purposes of FDIC coverage limit, all funds held on deposit by the Cardholder at MetaBank will be aggregated up to the coverage limit, currently $250,000.00.
If you change jobs, the deposits from your previous job to your Purpose Card will stop after your last paycheck. To set up direct deposit with your new employer, simply login to your account and print, complete, and sign another direct deposit form and provide it to your new employer. Once your employer processes the form, your paychecks from your new job will be directly deposited to your Purpose Card.

If you believe that your Purpose Card has been lost or stolen, call us immediately at 1-866-226-1551. We will put a block on the card to prevent unauthorized transactions and mail out a replacement card.

Yes. To get money from your card account without paying any fees, just bring your Purpose Card, a photo ID and this notice to any Visa Member Bank.
